Sale Sizzler 5k – Thursday 14th July

Well done the 8 ECH athletes who took part in the 2nd of the Sale Sizzler 5k series. Perfect conditions for fast times on the 2 lap course with Gavin Browne first home in 6th place clocking 15.51. Dan Armstrong showed a good return to racing in 32nd place recording a new PB of 17.02. Michelle Vaughan was next, having a great race to win the vet 50 female category with a time of 19.15. Other Good performances from Kyle Clayton 19.22, James Hartshorne 19.33, Alan Kennedy 19.52 (world famous AK82), Andrew Cole 21.52 and Gary Coxon 23.58 (all pictured afterwards barring Michelle, too busy picking up her prize!)

English Athletics u20 & u23 Track & Field Championships, Incorporating World Junior Trials, Bedford – 16th – 17th July

Emilia Platt and Maddison Vernon were selected to compete in this high quality competition against the best athletes in the country. Maddison went in the U20 100m and finished a very respectable 6th place in her heat with a time of 12.51. Emilia Platt went in the U20 3,000m and had a great run to get a new PB of 9.59.14 beating the 10 minute barrier and finishing a brilliant 5th place. Well done to both, amazing achievements.

Mossley 10k – Sunday 17th July

A very hot day made for tough conditions but fantastic running from all 8 ECH athletes who took part. Gavin Browne ran strongly in the second half to pick people off and finish in a brilliant 3rd place overall in 34.12. Aliesha Smith also finished in 3rd place in the female race, having another fantastic race at just 17 years old with a time of 45.02. Other brilliant performances came from Daniel Kavanagh 39.05, Darren Smith 39.57, Tim O’Donnell 43.08, James Fairfield 51.51, Katie Catherall 1.03.20 and Andy Warburton 1.04.46.

Millbrook Monster 10k – 20th July

A great local race returned and luckily cool conditions allowed for good running after the 2 day heat wave! A fantastic turnout from ECH athletes with 16 members taking on the very tough hilly course. First home in 2nd place overall was Gavin Browne having another consistent run with 37.55. Tom McGuinness 5th (39.50) and Robin Horner 7th (40.49) made up the team which took the overall men’s team prize. Other prize winners were Aliesha Smith 50.32 (3rd female overall and 1st U20) and Karen Fleming 55.35 (1st female vet 45) who both ran brilliantly.

First outing for ECH was James Fishlock with a great run to finish 12th in 43.16, closely followed by Gavin Hill who has returned to the club in 16th place with 44.04. Other great performances came from Darren Smith 44.30, Carl Hodskinson 45.26, Allan Cooke 45.44, James Hartshorne 47.49, Daniel Bamber 49.34, Thomas Clarke 54.17, Derek Hughes 57.00, Andrea Edwards 57.08 and Lee Buckley 1.05.39. Well done to all!
