Match 1- 15/10/2016 – Wythenshawe Park, Manchester

Warm sunshine and a fast firm course for the first x-country race of the season with some great performances from ECH athletes. The under 13 girls and the under 15 boys both finished with a 6th team place finish with Christie Allen 11th, Rose Barlow 13th and Libby Kilbourne 29th for the girls and Jack Blodwell 11th, Callum Brierley 22nd and Jake Smith 24th counting for the boys team. Good runs from Holly Jackson 5th and Megan Lewis 11th in the under 15 girls race.

The senior women’s team finished a creditable 13th with Bethany Hirst 26th, Janet Grint 59th, Angela Oldham 79th and Melanie Kay 114th. Angela ran well to get 2nd in her vet 60 category.

In the senior men’s event Joe Steward had a great run to finish in 2nd place, following him home for 8th place in the team event were Joe Hudak 58th, Gavin Browne 62nd, Ian Fraser 65th, Barry Hirst 74th and George Lewis 80th. Well done to Ian Fraser and Barry Hirst finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the vet 50 category.

Match 2 – 12/11/2016 – Boggart Hole Clough, Manchester

The second match of the series was the complete opposite to the first match, with very tough muddy conditions for all athletes to contest with. The under 11’s had their first match of this league and there was a great turnout and some excellent results. The under 11 boys had two complete teams finishing 4th (Luke Carrington 4th, James Harney 12th and James McGraw 16th) and 8th (Jake Beswick 24th, Zach Conboy 28th and L Storey Grimshaw 32nd). The under 11 girls team finished 8th overall with good performances from Matilda Brynes 7th, Leigha Mansa 25th and Madeline Stout 37th. Well done to all under 11 boys and girls for taking part!

The under 13 boys team finished 12th overall with good runs from Niall Owen 29th, Kane Grant 43rd and Ryan O’Neill 51st. The under 13 girls team finished an excellent 3rd with great performances from Christie Allen 4th, Rose Barlow 7th and Jessica Willcock 18th. The under 15 boys team finishes 6th with the team consisting of Callum Brierley 14th, Jame Smith 18th and Jack Blodwell 24th. The under 15 girls team finished a brilliant 3rd place with Megan Lewis 6th, Holly Jackson 8th and Abby O’Neill 16th. Keenan Owen had a great run to win the under 17 men’s race, followed by new member Mussie Kasa in a brilliant 4th and Nathan Barlow came 22nd to make up the team which finished 3rd overall.

The senior women’s team had a good turnout with the team finished 5th out of 50 teams, with good performances from Hayley Simpson 17th, Bethany Hirst 23rd, Lily McGuinness 27th and Sally Teague 51st. Well done to Angela Oldham who finished 2nd in the vet 60 category

The senior men’s team finished 16th overall out of 52 teams with solid runs from Gavin Browne 46th, George Lewis 53rd, Barry Hirst 67th, Mark Millns 125th, Scott Gillespie 153rd and Alan Kennedy 252nd. Well done to Barry Hirst who was 2nd in the vet 50 category.

 Match 3 – 03/12/2016 – Heaton Park, Manchester

The third match of the series took place at Heaton Park in good, fast and dry conditions. Another good turn-out form ECH athletes with some excellent performances. The under 11 boys team came 4th and the under 11 girls team finishing 6th with fantastic performances from Luke Carrington 7th, James McGraw 20th, J BowlerGreenwood 35th and for the girls Leigha Manser 10th, Madeline Stout 11th and May Mannion 30th making up the teams. The under 15 girls team finished 4th with good performances from Megan Lewis 7th, Holly Jackson 11th and Abby O’Neil 21st. The under 17 men’s race saw the team finish 3rd place overall with Keenan Owen having a great run to win the race, followed by Jacob Taylor 16th and Nathan Barlow 17th.

The Senior Women’s team finished a creditable 8th out of 42 teams with good runs from Hayley Simpson 14th, Bethany Hirst 24th, Janet Grint 57th and Angela Oldham 61st (1st vet 60) overall. The Senior Men’s team finished 26th out of 41 teams with solid runs from George Lewis 30th, Gavin Browne 51st, Dennis Thomas 178th, Derek Hughes 189th and Martin Lewis 310th. Well done to Dave Salmon getting 3rd vet 70.

Match 4 – 14/01/2017 – University playing fields/Kenworthy Woods, Wythenshawe

The fourth match of the series took place at a new venue on Manchester University playing fields and in to Kenworthy Woods, and was a good test for the athletes. In the under 13 girls event the team finished 4th place with good performances from Christie Allen 10th, Rose Barlow 11th, Jessica Willock 16th, Libby Kilbourne 20th and Katherine Waters 50th. The under 15 girls team finished a brilliant 2nd with great runs from Megan Lewis 4th, Holly Jackson 6th, Abby O’Neil 7th and Darcy Winrow 24th. Keenan Owen had another fantastic run to win the under 17 men’s event by 19 seconds.

A big well done to all ECH participants and coaches/parents for turning out to support the club on the day.

Match 5 – 11/02/2017 – Woodbank Park, Stockport

The last and final race of the series took place at Woodbank Park, which most of you will know is a tough test! The under 11 boys team finished in 4th place with good runs from Luke Carrington 7th, James Harney 10th, James McGraw 24th, Cole Wright 29th and Zach Conboy 30th. The under 11 girls team finished in 7th place with good performances from Matilda Brynes 7th, May Mannion 27th, Imogen Gush 43rd, Annabelle Clarke 63rd and Leigha Manser 71st. Well done to Ryan O.Neill our only representative in the under 13 boys race in 53rd place. The under 13 girls team finished in a brilliant 3rd place with excellent runs from Rose Barlow 6th, Jessica Willock 8th, Libby Kilbourne 16th and Katherine Waters 40th.

There were two ECH representatives in the under 15 boys with Callum Brierley in 14th and Jake Smith in 22nd place, both having good solid runs. The under 15 girls team finished in a creditable 4th place with Megan Lewis, Abby O’Neill and Darcy Winrow finishing in 4th, 10th and 19th respectively. Keenan Owen was back to winning ways winning the under 17 men’s race making it 4 wins out of 4 in the series, which is a remarkable effort.

The senior women’s team finished in 7th place with good performances from Hayley Simpson 15th, Bethany Hirst 24th, Angela Oldham 59th (1st Lady 60), Melanie Kay 81st and Andrea Edwards 110th. The senior men had 4 representatives from ECH with Tim Greenald first home in 114th, followed by Gary Matthews 136th (2nd vet 55), Derek Hughes 178th and Dave Salmon 325th.Well done to who took part and to coaches/parents for their help on the day.
