Home Countries International Mountain Race

Joe Steward and Tom McGuinness represented England at the Home Countries International Mountain race at Sedbergh on the 18th June. This race also incorporated the trial race for the World Mountain Championships in Italy on 28th July. The 12.6km route included 866m ascent and descent.

Joe Steward had a storming run to finish 3rd overall in the race and 1st under 23 to make the GB & NI team for the World Mountain Championships. Joe was in the winning England team beating Scotland and Wales. England team manager Mark Croasdale said ”It was also pleasing to some new faces in our team with special mentions to Joe Steward and Ruth Jones who on their performances can look forward to very bright futures.”

Tom McGuinness also ran well to finish 17th overall and a brilliant 2nd place in the under 23 age category. Well done to both athletes and we wish Joe the best of luck in Italy.
