Tour of Tameside 2019

The Tour of Tameside took place this weekend with many ECH athletes taking part. The full tour consists of 4 races in 4 days, starting with a 10k trail race finishing in Daisy Nook on the Thursday evening, a 6 mile fell race over Hobson moor and finishing next to Active Copley on the Friday evening, a half marathon Saturday morning on Longendale trail and finally a 7 mile road race in Hyde on the Sunday morning finishing outside Hyde Town Hall. Athletes can also decide to enter individual races if they wish.

Well done to those ECH athletes who completed the full tour described as the ‘Ultimate Running Challenge’, a fantastic achievement. Robin Horner had a fantastic weekend of racing taking a brilliant 4th place overall with an overall time of 3.22.57 and 1st vet 40. Liam Browne finished a creditable 14th place overall with 3.34.04 closely followed by Dennis Thomas in 17th place overall with 3.39.08 which was good enough for 3rd in his vet 45 category. Robin, Liam and Dennis made up the men’s team which won the team event overall, a brilliant achievement, well done! James Hartshorne performed well finishing 41st overall with 3.55.44. Francis Day was next finishing 189th overall and an amazing 2nd place in his vet 65 category with a total time of 4.43.48. Rachel Fawcett was our only female member competing the full tour, which she did in style in a time of 4.44.40 in 194th place overall. Lee Buckley and Gary Coxon also completed this very tough challenge with times of 4.48.45 and 5.16.13 respectively.

A few good performances came in the individual races with Joe Hudak finishing 3rd in the X Trail 10K race with 35.53 and Gavin Browne also finishing 3rd in the Hell on the Fell 6 mile race with 37.56.

A big thank you to all the ECH support out on the course throughout, especially the juniors at the X Trail 10k and ‘Shirls Girls’ for marshalling the water station on the Hell on the Fell race.
