Match 1 – 19/11/2016 – Heaton Park, Manchester

The first match of the series was a tough muddy one at Heaton Park. An excellent turnout from ECH athletes and some fantastic results. The under 11 boys team finished 2nd with James Harney 2nd, Cillian Mulcahy 6th and James McGraw 9th. The under 11 girls won the team event with Matilda Brynes 3rd, Leigha Manser 4th and Madeline Stout 5th. The under 13 boys team were 2nd with Kane Grant 7th, Patrick McGuinness 8th and Sam Vink 12th. The under 13 girls team were also 2nd with Rose Barlow 3rd, Jessica Willock 6th and Niamh Boyle 11th. Well done to Megan Lewis who finshed a brilliant 1st and Abby O’Neill 2nd in the under 15 girls race. The under 17 boys were 1st team with Nathan Barlow 2nd, Jacob Taylor 3rd and Paolo Guarnieri 7th.

The senior women’s team won the team event with Hayley Simpson 3rd, Bethany Hirst 5th and Lily McGuinness 9th (1st under 20). We also won the vet 35, vet 40 and vet 45 team events. Well done to Michelle Vaughan who won the Vet 45 category. The senior men’s team also finished 1st place with new member Clive Fitzpatrick 3rd, Scott Matthews 4th, George Lewis 7th (1st under 20) and Barry Hirst 16th.  The men’s team also won the vet 40 and vet 50 team events.

Match 2 – 10/12/2016 – Tandle Hill, Oldham

The second match of the series took place at Tandle Hill, which was a very muddy tough course starting and finishing in a cow’s field! A great turnout from ECH with some excellent performances all round. The under 11 boys team were 2nd with James McGraw 6th, Cillian Mulcahy 9th and Jake Beswick 11th making up the team. The under 11 girls were 3rd team with good runs from Leigha Manser 6th, Immogen Gush 9th and Maddie Ellor 11th. The under 13 boys team were also 3rd with the team consisting of Patrick McGuinness 8th, Ryan O.Neill 12th and Greg Dari 15th. Rose Barlow had a good run in the under 13 girls race finishing 2nd place overall with teammate Niamh Boyle in a solid 11th position. Jake Smith and Jack Blodwell had good runs in the under 15 boys race finishing 4th and 6th respectively. The under 15 girls won the team event with excellent performances from Megan Lewis 2nd, Abby O’Neill 3rd and Darcy Winrow 9th. A 1st and 2nd in the under 17 men’s race with Jacob Taylor winning with Nathan Barlow close behind in 2nd. Paolo Guarnieri finished 5th to help the team to 1st place.

The senior women’s team finished 2nd with solid performances from Bethany Hirst 7th, Hayley Simpson 11th and Michelle Vaughan 16th (1st Vet 45). ECH also won the team event in both the vet 35 and vet 40 age categories and a  special mention to Angela Oldham for winning the vet 60 race. The senior men’s team won convincingly with Clive Fitzpatrick 2nd, Scott Matthews 4th, Joe Hudak 5th and Gavin Browne 6th. ECH again won the team event in the vet 40 and 50 age categories. Well done to George Lewis coming 1st under under 20, Barry Hirst 1st vet 50 and Dave Salmon 1st vet 70.

Match 3 – 21/01/2017 – Leigh Sports Village

The third match of the series was at Leigh Sports Village, which a flat fast course, with some muddy sections to test the athletes. Another great day for ECH and a fantastic turnout from both athletes and parents/helpers! East Cheshire’s under 11 boys finished 2nd team with good performances from James Harney 2nd, Finley Blenkinsop 7th and Cillian Mulcahy 15th. The under 11 girls team finished in a brilliant 1st place with excellent runs from Matilda Brynes 2nd, Madeline Stout 6th and Leigha Manser 8th. Again East Cheshire won the under 13 boys team event with Greg Dari having a great run to win the race, with team-mates Kane Grant 8th and Patrick McGuinness 9th making up the team. The under 13 girls team finished a solid 3rd place with Jessica Willock 5th, Libby Kilbourne 8th and Niamh Boyle 9th overall. Jake Smith was the only representative in the under 15 boys race finishing a strong 3rd place. The under 15 girls team finished 2nd with good performances from Megan Lewis 2nd, Abby O’Neil 3rd and Claudia Lee 9th. The under 17 boys also finished 2nd in the team event with Paolo Guarnieri 3rd, Nathan Barlow 5th and Jacob Taylor in 8th.

Bethany Hirst had a great run to finish 4th overall in the senior women’s race, followed by Michelle Vaughan 10th (1st V45) and Angela Oldham 16th (1st V60) to win the team event. Mel Kay had a good run in 24th and 3rd vet 40 to help the team win both the vet 35 and 40 categories. The Senior men’s team also won the team event with a strong performance from Scott Matthews in 4th, closely followed by George Lewis in 6th (2nd Under 20), Joe Hudak in 7th and Gavin Browne made up the team in 15th place overall. The vet 40 team finished in 3rd place with Clive Fitzpatrick 16th, Chris Swire 28th and Derek Hughes 77th overall. Well done to Dave Salmon for taking 1st in the vet 70 category.

The last race of the series was at a new course at Astley Park in Chorley. Mainly good running, apart from the muddy section in the woods and the river crossing! A great turnout again from ECH and some excellent performances all round. Starting in the under 11 boys race, the team finished in 2nd place with James Harney 2nd, James McGraw 9th and Finley Blenkinsop 11th making up the team. The under 11 girls were also 2nd team with Matilda Brynes 4th, Madeline Stout 7th and Imogen Gush 11th making up the team. The under 13 girls team finished 4th with Rose Barlow 5th, Libby Kilbourne 6th and Niamh Boyle 13th. The under 15 girls won the team event with an excellent 1st and 2nd from Megan Lewis and Abby O’Neil respectively and Darcy Winrow finishing 7th to make up the team. The under 17 men also won the team event with a great 1st place from Mussie Kassa, followed by Nathan Barlow 4th and Jacob Taylor 6th.

The senior women won the ladies over 18, ladies over 35 and ladies over 40 team events and came 2nd in the ladies over 45 category. Good performances from Hayley Simpson 5th, Lily McGuinness 6th (2nd under 20), Bethany Hirst 7th, Michelle Vaughan 11th (1st vet 45), Angela Oldham 12th (1st vet 60), Sally Teague 13th, Melanie Kay 19th (2nd vet 40), Andrea Edwards 36th (3rd vet 45) and Nicola Richards 37th. The senior men won the team event and also the vet 40 team event. Good runs from Scott Matthews 3rd, George Lewis 4th (1st under 20), Joe Hudak 5th and Clive Fitzpatrick 6th (1st vet 40) to make up the team and to Chris Swire 21st (2nd vet 45) and Tim Greenald 25th (2nd vet 40) making up the vet 40 team with Clive.
